THRIVE! is brand new. Rather than ask you to just trust that, here's exactly how the money moves and how a name gets a checkmark next to it — so you can decide for yourself.
There's no single cut THRIVE! takes. When a creator sets up a paid campaign for a nonprofit, they propose a commission — anywhere from 10% to 30% — and the nonprofit reviews it before the page can accept a single gift. Either side can message the other to land on a different number first. Once approved, that's the real rate, and it's shown on the giving page before anyone gives.
Volunteer pages (someone raising for a cause with no commission at all) send 90% straight to the nonprofit and take no cut. Full detail: Terms of Service.
For a nonprofit: when adding your organization, you can search the real IRS nonprofit registry (the same public data the IRS itself publishes) to find and confirm your listing instead of typing everything by hand. The ✓ Verified badge itself comes from one of two things happening — your email domain matched your organization's own website (instant), or a real person on the THRIVE! team manually reviewed and approved you. An unclaimed or unverified org's page exists but stays out of public search, so a name showing up in Causes always means someone checked.
For a creator: the ✓ next to a handle on the Creators directory means at least one verified nonprofit has already reviewed and approved them to raise money on their behalf — not a follower count, a real approval from a real organization.
Every gift is processed through Stripe — the same infrastructure used by most of the internet for payments, not a system THRIVE! built or holds itself. Nonprofits get paid out either as a direct deposit via their own connected Stripe account, or as a grant through THRIVE!'s donor-advised-fund sponsor for organizations that haven't set up Stripe yet. Either way, the donor record — name, email, everything — goes straight to the nonprofit. Always.
THRIVE! is genuinely early. We'd rather say that plainly than pad it with numbers that aren't real yet. What that means for you: no bloated fee structure paying for a big team, direct access to the person who built it (see below), and an actual say in what gets built next if you're one of the first nonprofits or creators here.
